Tiny homes and their emergence, "Ark Shelter x Emma Wanderer"

As part of the pilot for our first Emma Wanderer Remote Work Campus, it was particularly important for us to keep soil sealing to a minimum. Sarah, our Head of Design, has been intensively involved with the Tiny Home movement for some time now.

At the beginning, we inquired with various Tiny Home manufacturers in Austria and had numerous discussions. Unfortunately, none of them could realize the style that we liked so much, like that of Ark Shelter. Ark Shelter is a Belgian-Slovak company founded by Michiel (Belgian) and Martin (Slovak). The two met during their architecture studies and decided to bring Ark Shelter to life together. Martin's family has been operating a factory in Slovakia for many years, as the entire family is dedicated to architecture.

The categories and associated prototypes emerged in the areas of: Shelter, Skylight, and Bunkbed.

When we met Michiel and Martin, both were not yet 30 years old, but their passion for wood, architecture and design convinced us completely. Thus, in April 2022, the exciting process began: Together with Ark Shelter, we developed the first Emma Wanderer x Ark Shelter modules and produced the first prototype. Sarah and Martin worked closely together, inspiring each other while Julia and Michiel ensured that 30 Tiny Homes were ready in time for the opening.

The creation of a Tiny Home can be envisioned as follows: The house is manufactured in the factory and subsequently delivered to the desired location by heavy transporter. On-site, it is placed with a crane and the Ark Shelter team takes care of the installation and connection to the infrastructure.

Our Tiny Homes are made of 100% solid wood, without the use of plastic, as is the case with many cheaper models from other manufacturers. This sustainable construction not only aligns with our ecological beliefs but also offers our guests a unique living experience amidst nature.

Drumroll, thunderbolt, and confetti – here they finally are: Our three different modules!
Skylight Tiny Home

The Skylight Tiny Home accommodates up to three adults or two adults and one to two children. Its name “Skylight” comes from the unique sleeping situation under the starry sky, made possible by the open glass-shaped roof.

Shelter Tiny Home

are identical to the Skylight, except for the open roof. They are therefore ideal for two people or for single use.

Bunkbed Tiny Home

feature bunk beds in the comfortable size of French double beds and are also designed for two people.

We would collaborate with Ark Shelter again at any time and can recommend them with the utmost confidence. They are not only outstanding architects with an extraordinary sense of style but also extremely hardworking and absolutely reliable. A friendship has emerged from this collaboration – for that, we are very grateful! Thank you, Michiel and Martin ❤️
